Estancia Rio Quillen,
the Rio Quillen and neighboring waters
The Estancia Rio Quillen is located in
the unspoiled region of Lanin National Park. It is a 2 hour drive
from the town of San Martin de los Andes and on the edge of
transition from the steppe to the lush forests of the Cordillera.
Aptly named for the Volcano Lanin, this Park is very much
dominated by the presence of this majestic mountain. Here to the
far north corner of the Park the outline of Lanin is ever present
from Lago Quillen. The estancia is owned by the Lagos-Marmol
family and consists of 49,000 acres. The Quillen valley of spring
creeks, small rivers and lakes add to the beauty of this area and
one feels very isolated from the rest of the world in this
impressive setting.
The
Quillen valley offers several different fishing waters including
the Malalco Creek and access to the Rio Alumine for a
day of float fishing. The transparent waters of the Rio Quillen
are home to rainbows and brown trout, and can offer good dry fly
fishing.
Accommodations are in the main house of the
ranch that is constructed of wonderful woodwork. There are
accommodations for six guests in bedrooms with private baths. The
lodge overlooks the valley of the Quillen and a stay here is
private and enjoyable. It is a lovely place for the non-angler as
there is a multitude of things to do from horseback riding,
hiking, birding and just relaxing in a gorgeous place on the
planet!
Rates: Average cost of a weekly trip in this region for 7-nights and 6-days is $4,725 per person, based on double
occupancy. Shorter stays are available as is a non-angler rate. Cost includes pickup at airport in San
Martin, local transportation, guided fishing, fine dining, excellent Argentine wines and all beverages. Non-inclusions
are gratuities and laundry.
A suggested
itinerary for this zone is to combine a stay at Quillen with a
couple other locations or lodges to make a stay of one week or
more.
